And the experiment is a failure =( At the very least, with only 1GiB of ram and a i686 CPU, write performance was terrible (25MiB/s with ZFS vs 40MiB/s with MDraid5+ext4), and due to lack of vmalloc space, reads flat out failed. Maybe in a year or two when I'm ready to buy more/bigger disks I'll try a BSD based ZFS, but for now, despite how shiny and easy it was, ZFSOnLinux is a failure for me.(( Edit: I should also point out that the 40MiB/s includes the first-time-creation background sync ))

Finally got ZFS installed on my server running Arch, and after much hemming and hawing, I think I'm finally ready to commit to replacing my md raid.Everything is already backed up to a combination of a spare 2T and 1T disks. Next I'll repurpose each of the 4 750G disks for the ZFS pool. From there I just need to make a decision on whether to create separate datasets or just stick with one big mount.
